Summary
Project Details
Chippewa Nature Center offers a nature-based preschool, one of only 12 in the nation. But this fall’s class will have a new environment – Rockford has completed a brand new preschool for the Nature Center. The preschool is Phase One of the Nature Center’s expansion plan.
Phase Two will be an addition to and renovation of the 20,000 sq. ft. existing Nature Center, including a new entry way, auditorium, additional classrooms, revised staff offices and support spaces, revised site entrance, roads, and parking.
Both phases are seeking LEED certification through features such as solar panels, geothermal energy, a plant-growing roof, a cistern and aqueduct, water-cleansing rain gardens, and a bioswale boardwalk. Every effort was taken to conserve trees; those that had to be cleared were used in construction of the preschool.
“We were impressed with the enthusiasm, knowledge, and can-do attitude of Rockford. During all aspects of this project, the Rockford Construction staff was accessible, responsive, and straight forward in all aspects of their work. They were also involved and knowledgeable members of our design group, creating a truly cooperative team… Rockford Construction’s efforts made this project a success.”
