Grand Rapids Art Museum

Summary

Project Details

Rockford Construction was chosen, along with Pepper Construction, to build Grand Rapids’ new art museum. The Rockford/Pepper joint venture provided construction management services for the 135,000 sq. ft. museum which included gallery and exhibition space, a family learning center, a gift shop, an auditorium, and a café.

Construction on the museum began in 2004 and was complete in 2007. The museum met the United State’s Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) criteria as the first newly-built LEED art museum in the world, receiving LEED Gold level certification.

“[Rockford] had to work in a constricted, urban site with a lot of surrounding traffic in a building that was very complex at a very high standard of quality. It was thought through beautifully. We simply had a very good team that was always anticipating and very clear-headed about the way that each phase of work was executed.”
