The LEED facility for Kent County not only provides recycling services for the County residents but also classroom space for the area’s students to see and learn more about the recycling process.
The new recycling center features state-of-the-art technology, called Single Stream Processing, that allows residents to mix or co-mingle their recycling together at the curb. The new sorting process requires little hand sorting and can process more residential recyclables at a faster rate. The Single Stream equipment was purchased first and then the building was designed around its requirements, requiring extensive collaboration between Rockford, the architect, the equipment provider, and the County.
