Cathedral Square

Summary

Project Details

Rockford Construction recently finished the Cathedral Square project for the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids. The $15 million project features new green office space, a conference center, kitchen, bookstore, courtyards, and a 210-space parking deck for the Diocese. The development required master planning to determine which buildings could be salvaged and renovated and which buildings required demolition and new construction.

The mixed-use project was built in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council’s standards for sustainable design and construction and is seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. All demolition was performed consistent with LEED standards and Rockford Construction received LEED points for diverting landfill waste and re-using existing materials.

“Rockford Construction understood and shared the diocese’s vision to create an area, anchored by the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, where we could centralize our services and expand our outreach efforts with neighboring urban institutions. The ability to interface our ideas with Rockford’s expertise has made Cathedral Square a reality for the Diocese of Grand Rapids and the broader community we serve. We appreciate Rockford’s understanding and knowledge in helping us create this unique park-like area in downtown Grand Rapids.”
